What is Ship Repairers Liability Insurance?
Ship repairer’s legal liability insurance provides protection against claims for negligence which a ship repairer may become legally liable and for damage of a vessel or vessels they are working on whilst in the care, custody and control of the repairer. This can include bodily injury or death of third parties resulting from their operations.
Cover can include:
Damage to vessels (including their machinery and equipment) being worked on
Legal expenses and defence costs
Damage to any other vessel or craft upon which the Assured is working
Removal of wreck;
Loss of or damage to third party property occurring in the course of or arising from negligent ship repairing operations
Extensions can include
Sudden and accidental pollution
Travelling workman – coverage no matter where the work is being preformed away from the Repairer’s yard
What types of business need Ship Repairers Liability Insurance?
Ship repair yards or contractors involved in the ship repair industry, that provide maintenance or repair services to watercraft for example: ship repair facilities, marina operators, painters, welders, mechanics, electricians, plumbers, upholsterers, cabinet makers and many other specialist tradesmen.
Is Ship Repairers Liability Insurance Compulsory?
Not legally although membership of certain professional trade bodies requires that it is in place and most clients will require that you have it in place before they will work with you.
